Ashoka Halwa



Ashoka Halwa is a popular sweet in Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district. Moong dal, wheat flour, ghee and sugar is the main ingredients of the dish. Cooking time on 45 minutes.

Ingredients:
  1. 1 Glass of moong dhal

  2. 2 cup of water

  3. 2 teaspoon wheat floor

  4. 2 teasoon of ghee

  5. 2 Glass of sugar

  6. 1 - 2 teaspoon of cashew nut

  7. 1 pieces of cardamon

Take a one cup of moong dal.

Transfer the bowl.

  1. Pour the 2 cup of normal water and soak it for 15 minutes.

  2. Keep aside.

After 15 Minutes moong dal soak well.

Rinse the water and keep aside

  1. Take a cooker and heat it(Medium Flame).

  2. Add 1 tsp of ghee

Add soaked moong dal and saute in 5- 10 minutes on medium flame.

Moong dal sauted well.

Pour the one cup of the water in medium flame.

Mix well.


  1. Close the cooker and apply the cooker stones.

  2. And waiting for 2 - 3 whistle.

  3. After 2 - 3 whistle switch off the flame and keep aside.

Moong dhal cooked well.

Mashed the moong dal and keep aside.

Take two teaspoon of wheat flour and roasted well in medium flame.

Roasted for 5 - 10 minutes in medium falme.

Add 1 teaspoon of ghee and roasted for meduim flame.

Ghee are melted well.

Add crushed moong dal in medium flame.

Mix well.

Add sugar and mix well.

Mix continuously in low flame.

  1. Sugar are melted well.

  2. And cardamom and mix well..

  1. Ashoka halwa get ready

  2. Now shutoff the flame keep aside.

Add two teaspoon of ghee and 1 teaspoon of cashew nut roasted well.

  1. Cashew nut roasted well

  2. Pour the cashew nut and ghee.


Mix well.

Now switchoff the flame.

Optional (Spread the badam)

Serve it.
